Real Estate Training – What is getting in the way of your success?

Hey Everybody, Welcome to this week’s Real Estate Coaching and training session. My name is Daren Phillipy, CEO of Phillipy Consulting. This week I want to take a little time about what’s getting in the way of your success.

You know, I have been thinking about this lately. It’s been a few months since the beginning of year, and when the New Year hits, you take the time to put together your game plan your business plan and put together some the goals that you want to accomplish for the year. You know you start at it. You say to yourself, I’m going to totally change this part of my business, and I’m going to change these bad habits that I do. I’m going to implement these things in my business this year. So it’s been a few months, and it’s now time to kind of do that self-check, and check and see exactly how we are doing. You know, I feel like many of us, as the year goes on and we start running into challenges. We get off track of really what we are trying to accomplish. We get off track of the game plan. So I thought it would be really good for us to talk a little bit about discovering the things that are getting of the way of your success. Now, this could be like four hour conversation here, but I’m going to keep this one relatively brief. This isn’t really a complicated topic. It’s really more of a topic of current self-evaluation and taking the time to a value to your business. So I’m going to give you, I guess, a three-step approach to dealing with the situation. Kind of evaluating your business, and seeing what is getting in the way of your success. I’m not saying that you’re not successful right now, but there’s always things that we can improve in. There’s always some challenges that were dealing with that we would like to overcome. That is kind of what this coaching session is about. It is really to raise the bar of the production or the activity of which currently doing.

So, the first thing, and I know this isn’t a complete genius thing. The first thing is we better recognize what it is that’s kind of holding us back. There is a couple of areas we kind of look at. We need to take the time to evaluate our Real Estate business. First, we are going to take some time and do a little self-evaluation. When you are doing a self-evaluation, I think that the main areas that we want look at is, what’s been really successful so far this year? What have we done really well? Then, we want to look at also, what are some of the things that haven’t worked very well this year? What are some of the activities that have not had a good return, or tend to be ineffective or inefficient in our daily tasks. I think this is also really good time to evaluate our bad habits. Let’s look at ourselves. Some of the things that we do, we just have bad habits, right? We need to cut those bad habits out of our business. A lot of times the bad habits is really what holds us back.

The second thing is once we do our self-evaluation, I think it’s also time to turn to someone else. Either speak, a manager, or look to a mentor, or if you’ve got a Realtor coach like Phillipy Consulting. Take this time and to discuss your business. I think especially it’s important to be able to keep an open mind as you have this conversation. Talk to your mentor or coach or your manager about some of the goals that you have this year and where you stand. Talk a little about “these are some of the things or the challenges I believe are holding me back. What else? I think what is really helpful, and it’s kind of a hard thing to do too, is ask for constructive criticism. Ask them for an honest evaluation of your real estate business.

Now, when we do something like this it also leaves us vulnerable. A lot of times when we ask this question of “hey, what should I do better? What could I do better way?” We are going to want to defend or protect your real estate business or protect ourselves and so will start throwing answers or excuses or qualify some of the things that we do. I think it’s really important to bite our tongue there, and really listen. If you really want to make a difference in your business, you have to change it. When we’re putting up these defenses, really we’re kind of pushing against the change. So I think this time when you are speaking with your real estate coach, your mentor, or with your manager is the time to really just sit and listen and get an honest opinion about the direction your business is going. Talk about your bad habits. Talk about your challenges the ways to move forward. I know, not rocket science, but I think it’s something that’s really important to do. I think, many times we get so busy we just don’t deal with this issue. So that’s what that would be good to discuss at this point and time of the year.

All right, we have discovered some of the challenges or some of the roadblocks of the things that are holding us back from success that are kind of getting the way of us getting to the next level. So now we need to come up with some sort of solution or way to change that or fix those challenges or problems. So, of course there is a couple ways we can do this. We can go to the old trusty “all-knowing” internet and kind of talk about and do some research online about overcoming this challenge, or get tips or ideas to overcome this bad habit, or whatever it may be. Take some time to do some self-research. It might be a good time to really read some books on some of those topics that people may be of success in those topics that have been successful in those areas that that we can learn some information from.

The other thing too, I believe you may know the solution too. Spend some time brainstorming. Brainstorm on different ways to be able to attack that same problem. It’s probably a problem that you’ve had in your career for a long period of time. If you want to change that, the main things just really recognizing it, and put together some sort of game plan.

Of course, once we have evaluated that, maybe to get a different perspective, go back to your mentor or coach or manager. Talk about some of the solutions we can come up with to fix this challenger or be able to get over this obstacle. If you realize that you’re wasting time and spending too much time doing certain things, or your being distracted, or whatever it may be. Talk to your coach about these things. Talk to me. I am a Real Estate Coach, right? Talk to me, and we can figure out a solution to get over these obstacles.

Now for the grand finale. What do we do once we had these conversations and we’ve discovered our challenges and things are getting the way of our success? I know, here we go, are you ready to be floored on this one? We’ve got to change! Right? I know, you didn’t even see this one coming. We’ve got to implement change. We can’t continue doing the exact same thing. Go through these exercises, realizing, “This is holding me back! This is getting in the way of me getting to the next level”. When you know these things we can’t continue down the same path. If we truly want to become better, we must change. We all know it takes about twenty one days to be able to create a new habit. I think that’s what we need do, is take some of these challenges or these distractions that we have. You know, some good things that are getting the way of us getting the next level. Pick one of them and make that a new habit. If it’s a new marketing campaign or if it’s a new daily activity or if it’s a new way of doing your real estate business. Work on one activity. Work on one challenge. Make that a better habit. Make it a good habit.

We also need to be disciplined with her change. A lot of times, just like the New Year, when we want to make these new goals, and change all these things about our business or about ourselves, we get into changing these things. After a while, we get distracted. We get pulled off course. It’s extremely important for us to make sure that we are disciplined. It’s easy to say, “be discipline”, but I know it’s a challenge. I know it’s hard. I know it’s easy to fall back into your bad habits. Especially when chaos comes or especially if you’re naturally disorganized person, and the thing to overcome it is to be more organized. When chaos comes, and you get distracted with things, is easy to fall into those bad habits. We need to make sure that we stick through it and hold our self accountable. Hold ourselves accountable. Have a manager hold us accountable. Talk to your real estate coach. Talk to Phillipy Consulting and say “hey, I need to report on these things and make sure that I’m doing them”. I know that if we do these things it will make a difference in her business.
So I know it’s really a simple topic today. I really felt it was important since we were few months into the New Year, and your real estate businesses cranking along. We can look at her business and see what is getting in the way. What is getting in the way of our success and cut those things out, so we can achieve the goals and success that we deserve.

So, that’s pretty much the coaching session for today. I want to discuss a couple of things before I sign off. You’re going to notice over the next few months.
