Over the past few years, I have worked with many Realtors and Loan Officers. In my real estate coaching sessions, I have learned that most professionals know what needs to be done in their business to find success. I have found that the difference between the top producers and the rests is that the top producers are better or more efficient at implementing tasks and Ideas. This coaching session discusses the challenge of implementing things, and provides a tip for taking action.

Taking Action In Your Real Estate Business
Hi Everybody. Welcome to this week’s Real Estate Coaching and Training session. My name is Daren Phillipy, CEO of Phillipy Consulting. This week we are going to be talking about “Taking action in our real estate business”
Now, many of you view if you’re listening to this podcast are watching this on my site, you’ve seen the front page of my website. I put a quote on there from Tony Robbins that I find to be extremely motivating and pretty profound. It says “In life, lots of people know what to do, but few people actually do what they know. Knowing is not enough. You must take action.” I think that is completely true. I want you to think about your business little bit right now. I believe that you know what needs be done, and the very specific tasks that need to be done in your business to find success. The challenge is implementing them in our business.
I was talking to a relatively large producer here in town a few days ago. We were talking about the very small subtle differences between power producers and everyone else; and the things that top producers do to separate themselves, and make their business so much more success than everyone else. We came to the conclusion, (like there’s really always a conclusion, please.) We ended our conversation by agreeing that it’s the little things that make the difference. I believe it’s the little things that the top producers are able to implement into their business and take action. Those little things make a huge difference. That’s why I wanted to bring this up.
I think that simple idea of taking action and being able to implement, even a portion of that your business, will make a huge difference. The purpose of this is not really to have you listen to this podcast or his coaching session, and do nothing about it. What I want you to do, I want you to take action in all the things that I bring up. I want you to be taking action.
So is an exercise, what I would like you to do is take some time, write down some of the tasks that you know need to be implemented into your business. Write down if it’s implementing a database or you need to create a call list, or you need to organize your desk. Put together these tasks that you know are holding you back that if you implement them into your business, you would be in a better position.
Now, after you made a list of some things that you know are holding you back, I also want you to pick one of the top producers, make somebody in your office that is currently running a business that you would love, look at the activities at their doing. Look at the small things that they’re doing, that you’re not. Implement them. Emulate their business. Now, again, after you’ve done that, I’m sure you’re sitting there saying “okay, Yes, I know this, but knowing that I’ve been needing to have a database. I know that I’ve been meaning to do this organization or start making call list or whatever.” We need that “little voice” in our head that will make us do something. That will make us take action.
Let me tell you a little story about my son. His name is Creed. He is a complete stud! He’s just turned three years old, and he is kind of a terror well, not even kind of a terror. Look at his eyes. There is something. . .Sure he looks cute in his little football outfit, but I’m telling you, he is a terror. Anyway, he is my “little voice”. If you guys have kids, I’m sure you’ll relate to the story that I am about to tell you. Every morning, I usually wake up about six clock in the morning. I do a couple of chores around the house, and work on my computer a little bit. Around seven thirty, my little boy wakes up. Creed wakes up and walks downstairs and he sits down. I’m right in the middle of doing work, and what comes out of his mouth? “I want cereal!” He always wants cereal or juice or water. Never at a convenient time. So I’m always saying “fine, okay Creed, let me do this and then I will get you your cereal.” Then I will say, “Hey Creed, do you want to watch a cartoon?” and he is like “No Dad, I want some cereal.” So I sit there and I say “just one second, give me a minute. I have to finish this one thing.” Just like little kids do, they are like “Dad, I want some cereal, Dad, I want some cereal, Dad, I want some cereal, Dad, I want some cereal.” He will not stop until I get up, get my tail out of the chair and go over a give him some cereal. Once he has his cereal, he is fine. He is happy camper. Until then, he’s going to consistently remind me that cereal is not in his bowl. This happens every single day.
There are a couple things we learn from this. #1 – We all need a little Creed in our head. We all need that little voice in our head that says, “Implement a database, Implement a database, Implement a database, implement a database.” That little voice is never going to go away until we implement our database. It’s just a simple thing. When we hear that voice, and it keeps on nagging at us, eventually guess what. My kid is going to get his cereal every morning. He gets it, because he consistently reminds me that it needs to be done. For you, need to find that little voice in your head. You need to find your own little voice. That one thing that reminds you and makes you so nuts for not having that task done, that you implement it. I believe we won’t get out of our bad habits and we won’t keep on putting things off, and we won’t stop her procrastination, until the pain of not implementing that task, or that activity, or that idea, is greater than the pain of procrastination. I hope that makes sense.
Just like when Creed asked for the cereal. I can handle two or three times saying, “I want some cereal.” I’ll do whatever I can to distract him, and him and pointing to a different direction. He will consistently come back and say, “Dad, I want some cereal.” and there’s nothing I can do until I actually get him cereal. That pain from listening to him saying, “Dad, I want cereal.” is greater than procrastinating, and continuing to finish my task. And Creed gets his cereal.
So, it’s your job to find out what is your voice? What is that “thing” that will prod you and poke you to take that action and to implement the things that you know you been putting off for a long time. Some people might consider that little voice that gets things done as their coach, business coach. Some people might consider that as their little reminder on their phone that it reminds them every single day that this task needs to be done. Some people might consider their spouse or their kids their little voice. Whatever it is you need to find that “little voice” that makes you get up and take action. Not a lot of deep thought, but I really think that it’s an important concept.
Again, thanks for listening. I’m really excited about some of things going on. I think some of the stuff that I’m working on, will probably be launched in a few months. It’s something that I think you guys will absolutely love. Until then, remember, I’ve got Business Booster, a one-on-one coaching system to be that little voice to help you take action in your business. You could find the Business Booster at www.phillipyconsulting.com. Also, if you find these coaching sessions helpful, take some time and share it with a friend. Share it with a coworker. Let them know that there’s a great resource online where they can listen to great coaching and hear some great motivation about things that will literally make a difference in their business. Again, this one’s a short one, just like a promise you. It will continue to be short for a while. Now go out and take action today.
